Turīya·Sūtra — you are a sum of forces
Eight Indian knowledge systems, drawn not as eight subjects but as one cross-section through a single organism. Cut it anywhere and the same threads keep running: an element in Sāṃkhya is the element a doṣa is built from, is the element a direction of a building is governed by, is the element a sense-object belongs to. The systems were never separate. They were catalogued separately.
The thirteen layers of the cross-section
- The unmanifest — avyakta — prakṛti and her three guṇas
- The veil — māyā, the five kañcukas, the pure tattvas
- The wheel and time — the twelve rāśis, the twenty-seven nakṣatras
- The sky — the nine grahas
- The dwelling — vāstu — space, organised
- The five elements — the shared hubs — every thread passes here
- The membrane — the indriyas — five facing out, five facing in
- The flesh — doṣa, dhātu, mala — the body as substance
- The breath — the five winds, the three channels
- The centres — six — and a seventh that is not one of them
- The five sheaths — Taittirīya II — each one inner to the last
- The inner instrument — manas, ahaṃkāra, buddhi
- The witness — puruṣa — where the mirror stops returning an image
Six layers stand outside the membrane and six inside. Outward the map runs through lenses to the unmanifest; inward it runs through mirrors to the witness. Roughly a third of the threads cross the middle — those are the ones worth pulling.
The eight lenses
- Tattva — the descent, and what it is made of · 30 points
- Jyotiṣa — the nine, and everything they are said to correspond to · 26 points
- Āyurveda — doṣa, dhātu, agni, mala · 40 points
- Yoga — centres, winds, channels · 28 points
- Vāstu — the quarters of built space · 9 points
- The senses — the five tanmātras · 5 points
- Śrīvidyā — the Śrīcakra, the point, the goddess · 9 points
- Mudrā — the seal, and the body it installs · 16 points
A lens is not a place. Turning one on re-colours the same organism; nothing is replaced and nothing is hidden. Every record carries one of three tags — classical where a named text can be cited, later addition where a popular idea is modern and is said to be modern, and sources differ where the tradition itself has more than one account and the disagreement is reported rather than resolved.
